Why See a Dentist

Dental Health is Systemic Health!

A bright, healthy smile can boost your confidence and make you feel good, but oral health goes deeper than your smile.  Many studies have shown the link between systemic health and oral health. Those at a higher risk- diabetes, heart disease, etc. By taking care of your teeth, eating a balanced diet, and visiting the dentist regularly, you can have healthy teeth and an attractive smile throughout your entire life.

How Often Should I Visit the Dentist?

Most people have regular check-ups and cleanings every six months, but you may need more frequent visits if you have periodontal disease or other risk factors. Your hygienist and your DDA denist will make a recommendation that is right for you.

What Happens When I Visit the Dentist?

At your checkup, you will receive a thorough cleaning and an oral exam by the dentist. During the oral exam, the dentist checks the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue. An oral cancer screening is also a routine part of your exam. At each visit, the dentist will check old fillings and restorations because constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause them to wear away, chip, or crack. Keeping current with regular visits will help prevent disease as well as help ensure that your existing restorations continue to do their job.

But My Teeth Feel Fine

If you wait until you're in pain to see a dentist, you're likely going to encounter more costly procedures that far out weigh the cost of regular; preventive care. With regular visits, your dentist will be able to catch decay at an early stage and offer less costly treatment. Dental pain can be an indication that decay has reached the interior of your tooth and affected the nerve or caused an infection. We want to spare our patients the discomfort, inconvience, and cost of dental emergencies which is why our practice philosophy starts with prevention.

But I Don't Like Going to the Dentist

The good news is, you're not alone. At DDA we have many patients who have a difficult time with dental visits due to past experiences, discomfort, anxiety, or just plain dislike the dental environment. Our staff is especially trained to make your experience pleasant and comfortable. From your first phone call to the moment you walk out our door, you can expect kindness, respect, and understanding.

Every patient has different needs, and we will do everything we can to ensure that your specific needs are met. We offer blankets, and neck pillows for use during your appointments. We also offer personal headsets to drown out uncomfortable dental noise. If you feel that you need more help relaxing during your appointment, refer to our sedation options.
